PE-led portfolio hiring: what works, what doesn't.
The patterns we see across operating-partner-led hiring programmes — and the three mistakes funds make most often.

Operating-partner-led hiring has become a real practice inside Indian PE. The funds doing it well treat portco leadership as a portfolio decision, not a portco-by-portco one.
Three mistakes recur. First, hiring the operator the fund knows rather than the operator the portco needs. Second, pushing CFO hires too early, before the business has the systems to absorb one. Third, underestimating the cultural cost of imposing fund-side urgency on a founder-led team.
When it works, PE-backed hiring is the most aligned form of senior search we run. The bar is unforgiving, the timelines are honest, and the post-hire integration is real.
