Banking & Financial Services.

Leadership for an industry being rewritten by regulation, risk and technology.

01 / Overview

The practice.

Banking and financial services is the most regulated, most scrutinised and most leadership-intensive industry we serve. The cost of a wrong hire — at the CRO, CCO, CFO or CEO level — is not measured in dollars but in regulatory action, reputational damage and years of remediation.

We have spent nearly three decades building a leadership franchise inside this sector. Our consultants have placed Country Heads of global banks, CFOs of public-listed NBFCs, CROs of large insurance carriers, fintech founders' first commercial hires, and entire executive teams for new GCC entrants into Indian financial services.

Our BFSI practice is organised by sub-sector — banking, NBFC and lending, insurance, asset and wealth management, capital markets, fintech and embedded finance, and risk and compliance — so every search is run by a consultant who already speaks the regulatory grammar and commercial logic of the business.

02 / Market landscape

What the market is doing.

The forces shaping leadership demand in Banking right now.

01

Indian banking is consolidating while fintech expands

Mergers, divestments and PE buy-outs are reshaping the Indian banking landscape, while embedded finance, lending-as-a-service and account-aggregator-led models are creating entirely new P&Ls. Leadership briefs are increasingly hybrid: a Head of Retail Banking now needs to think like a product manager and a regulator simultaneously.

02

Risk and compliance is the scarcest talent pool

Across India, the GCC and SEA, demand for credible Chief Risk Officers, Chief Compliance Officers and Heads of AML / Sanctions is outstripping supply. Most of these candidates are passive, deeply referenced, and only move for very specific mandates — exactly the kind of search where a long-tenured practice matters most.

03

GCC banks hiring Indian leadership at speed

Saudi, UAE and Qatari banks are aggressively recruiting Indian-origin leaders for transformation, digital, risk and capital-markets mandates. We routinely run cross-border briefs between Mumbai, Gurgaon, Dubai and Riyadh, where the same shortlist serves both India and GCC clients.

04

Wealth and asset management is scaling faster than its leadership pipeline

Indian wealth platforms are doubling AUM every 18–24 months. Asset managers are launching alternatives, private credit, and global feeder funds. The senior leadership benches were not built for this scale, and almost every meaningful house is in active hiring mode at the Head of Sales, Head of Products and CEO level.

03 / Talent landscape
"The best BFSI leaders in India and the GCC are deeply networked, rarely on the market, and almost never respond to inbound. Our process is built for that reality — we work referral-first, back-channel before we approach, and treat the search as a multi-quarter conversation rather than a one-off pitch."

05 / Our approach

How we hire for Banking.

01

Regulatory fluency, not just functional fit

Every long-list is vetted for regulator-facing exposure — RBI, SEBI, IRDAI, DFSA, MAS — because in BFSI a leader who cannot hold a regulatory conversation is a liability, not an asset. We surface this in the first round of evaluation, not the last.

02

Risk-weighted referencing

We back-channel reference candidates on judgment under pressure: how they behaved through 2008, COVID, IL&FS, the moratorium, and digital fraud spikes. Capability without temperament is disqualifying in this sector, and most of our deepest references happen before the candidate is ever told there is a role.

03

Cross-border benches

Our India–UAE–Singapore–Canada corridors mean we can present diaspora and returnee leadership that most domestic firms cannot reach. For GCC clients hiring Indian leaders, we know the relocation, compensation and family-context conversations before they happen.

04

Succession-aware hiring

We don't fill seats, we build benches. Every senior hire is mapped against the 2-bench-deep view of the function so the next CRO, CFO or COO is already visible — even if they are five years away.

06 / Methodology

Our 5-step process.

The way we run a sector search end to end.

  1. 01

    Mandate briefing

Two-week deep dive with the CEO, CHRO and direct stakeholders. We re-write the role and outcome charter before we touch the market.

  2. 02

    Market mapping

Sub-sector mapping across India, GCC and diaspora. Typically 120–180 named candidates per CXO role, narrowed to a focused long-list.

  3. 03

    Discreet outreach

Senior-to-senior approach. No mass mailers. Conversations are positioned as exploratory until mutual interest is established.

  4. 04

    Multi-lens assessment

Functional, leadership, regulator-readiness and culture-fit assessment with structured scorecards and committee calibration.

  5. 05

    Closure & onboarding

Compensation structuring, family relocation, integration plan and first-90-day check-ins so the hire actually lands.

08 / Cross-border

India · UAE · Singapore · Canada.

We run integrated India–GCC mandates almost weekly: an Indian CFO moving to a Dubai bank, a Singapore-based capital-markets head returning to Mumbai, a Toronto-based risk leader joining an Indian NBFC. Our Gurgaon, Mumbai, Bangalore and Dubai offices share the same candidate database and operating model, so cross-border conversations move in days, not weeks.

09 / Case snapshots

Recent work.

Anonymised to protect client and candidate confidentiality.

01

Group CRO for a top-5 Indian private bank

Replaced a long-tenured CRO with a globally-trained leader. Mapped 140 candidates across India, Singapore and London; closed in 14 weeks with the regulator's confidence intact through the transition.

02

Country Head for a GCC bank entering India

Built the entire country leadership team — CEO, CFO, CRO, Head of Corporate Banking — in a single integrated mandate over 7 months. All five hires still in seat 4 years later.

03

Founding commercial team for an embedded-finance fintech

Hired the Chief Business Officer, Head of Partnerships and Head of Risk for a Series B fintech. Compensation structured 60% cash / 40% equity with founder-aligned ESOPs.

11 / FAQ

Questions, answered.

Do you work with both Indian banks and GCC banks?
Yes — and increasingly with both sides of the same mandate. Many of our most senior placements move between India and the GCC, and our offices in Gurgaon, Mumbai, Bangalore, Dubai and Toronto operate as a single team.
How do you handle confidentiality on sensitive replacements?
Most CXO replacements in BFSI are confidential by default. We brief on a need-to-know basis, run market mapping under generic position descriptions, and only name the client to candidates we have already qualified twice.
Do you support board and independent director search?
Yes. We maintain a curated panel of regulated-industry-ready independent directors, with diversity, regulatory exposure and committee-readiness pre-screened.
